What kinds of letters can Genie write?
All kinds — you never pick a template. Genie figures out what you're writing from what you say and shapes the letter accordingly, matching the tone to the job: firm for a complaint, warm for a thank-you, persuasive for an appeal. People send things like: - Thank-you notes, congratulations, and recommendations - Invitations, announcements, love letters, and condolences - Apologies and get-well notes - Requests, inquiries, and business letters - Complaints, appeals, and notices - Product returns, cancellations, and change-of-address letters One thing Genie is not: a lawyer, doctor, or financial advisor. Letters generated through PostalGenie are not legal advice and may not satisfy specific legal notice requirements. For legal matters, consult a qualified attorney.
Privacy & securityWhat happens to my letter and my data after I send? How long do you keep it?
Your letter content, your conversation with Genie, and any text extracted from uploaded files are encrypted in transit and at rest, and retained for safety and security — to detect and prevent fraud and abuse, and to protect you and us if there's ever a dispute. How long: generally up to 6 years from the date of the transaction (the date you pay and submit the letter for mailing), after which it's deleted. Where the law requires it — an active investigation, subpoena, or legal hold — specific records may be kept longer, until the matter is resolved. We also keep an order receipt (order number, addresses, tracking, payment summary) so you have a record of what was sent. A few protections worth knowing: - Sensitive numbers are masked. Where we detect things like a full card number or Social Security number in a letter, we mask them (keeping only the last four digits) in the copy we retain. This is automated and best-effort — please avoid putting sensitive numbers in a letter unless they're necessary. - Access is limited and logged. Only a small number of authorized people can decrypt letter content, only when necessary (fraud, abuse, safety, legal compliance, or your own requests), and each access is logged. - We never sell your data, and we don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Want your data deleted? You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email support@postalgenie.app with the subject "Personal Data Deletion Request." We verify requests against your account email and aim to respond within 45 days. Some records we're required to keep — for example, for legal claims or security — may be retained as the law allows.
Content policiesWhy was my letter blocked, and what can I do about it?
Every letter is automatically checked before it can be sent. This screening helps keep the service safe — it blocks content our Terms don't allow, such as content that is threatening, harassing, abusive, fraudulent, deceptive, hateful, or obscene, plus a few practical categories: - Inappropriate language that can't be mailed. - Text art (ASCII drawings) — letters must be plain text. - Legal advice or legal citations — PostalGenie is a correspondence tool, not a law firm, so we can't mail letters that give legal advice. Rewrite it in your own words: describe your situation and what you want, without quoting laws, statutes, or legal conclusions. - Letters that score too high on our overall safety review as written. If your letter is blocked, the reason appears right under the draft. In most cases the fix is simple: edit the flagged part and continue — the letter is re-checked automatically. You may also see cautions that don't block sending — for example, a reminder that untrue factual claims about a person or company could be libel, or that sensitive personal numbers are visible to anyone who handles the envelope. These are worth reading: you're responsible for what you send. Think a block is a mistake? Email support@postalgenie.app with your letter's details and we'll take a look.
Privacy & securityWhat happens to my voice when I dictate a letter?
Nothing reaches us as audio. If you dictate instead of typing, the speech-to-text conversion happens on your device or in your browser's built-in speech feature — not on PostalGenie's servers. We do not record, collect, store, or transmit your voice. Only the resulting text you choose to submit reaches us, and it's treated like any other text you type. One note: your browser, device, or operating system may process the audio under its own privacy policy, which we don't control. If you'd rather avoid that entirely, just type instead.
Delivery & trackingHow do I track a letter I've sent?
It depends on the mail class you chose: - Certified Mail includes a USPS tracking number and a USPS record of delivery to the recipient's address. - First-Class letters travel as regular mail, with no tracking. After your letter is posted, its page shows a "Posted" mark and a tracking reference, and a Download PDF link appears so you can keep an exact copy. Your Outbox lists everything you've sent, with each letter's status. If your Certified letter's tracking hasn't updated in a while, or something looks off, email support@postalgenie.app — we'll work with our mail provider to look into it.
Delivery & trackingHow long does delivery take?
After you approve and pay, your letter is typically processed and handed off for mailing within 1–2 business days. From there, most letters arrive in about 3–5 business days with First-Class. Certified Mail takes about the same time — it adds tracking and a delivery record, not speed. Actual processing and delivery times can vary and are not guaranteed. Printing, posting, and delivery are handled by our print-and-mail provider and the postal carrier, so we can't promise a specific mailing, postmark, or delivery date. Facing a postmark deadline? If you're up against a hard postmark date with only a day or two to spare, we can't guarantee your letter will be postmarked in time — so we don't recommend relying on PostalGenie for it. Use the service when you have at least 3–5 business days of lead time before the required postmark date. And note: the date you place your order is not the date your letter is mailed or postmarked.
